Hind Shoufani, born in 1978 in Lebanon, is a multifaceted artist known for her work as a poet, filmmaker, and activist. Raised in Damascus and Amman, Shoufani's background as a refugee has deeply influenced her art. She studied communicative arts in Beirut and later received a Fulbright scholarship to study filmmaking at NYU. Shoufani's poetry often addresses themes of love, death, identity, and feminist issues in the Arab world. She founded the Poeticians, a multilingual public reading forum for poets. Her work spans poetry collections, performances, and films, including an Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning project.
